Facts and Events
Thomas John MacDonald's origins have yet to be established. If the age quoted when he died was correct, he was born in about 1821. His first confirmed sighting is in 1846, by which time he was married to Ellen Reid, who was originally from Monasterevin in County Kildare. Thomas and Ellen had two children baptised at Bohermeen in County Meath in 1846 and 1847, before moving about 15 miles north to Nobber, also in County Meath, where they had a further nine children between 1849 and 1865. Thomas worked as a teacher in the National School, and also acted as a deputy registrar of births, marriages and deaths. Thomas died on 3rd October 1865 at Nobber. He was said to be 44 years old. He left an estate which was administered by his widow Ellen, which was valued at under £30. References
