ORIGIN: Unknown.
MIGRATION: 1635 on the Abigail (on 17 June 1635, "Tho[mas] Jones," aged 40, "Ellin Jones" aged 36, "Isack Jones" aged 8, "Hester Jones," aged 6, "Tho[mas] Jones" aged 3, and "Sara Jones," aged 3 months, were enrolled at London as passengers for New England on the Abigail [Hotten 92]).
CHURCH MEMBERSHIP: On 23 August 1636, Thomas Jones was one of the seven founding members of the second Church at Dorchester [DChR 2]. Ellen Jones was admitted to the same church in 1639 [DChR 4].
FREEMAN: Massachusetts Bay freemanship prior to 12 March 1637/8 implied by service as deputy to General Court [MBCR 1:220], but no record of freemanship for a Thomas Jones exists prior to that date. (On 13 March 1638/9, a Thomas Jones was made free [MBCR 1:375] and Savage assigned this entry to the Dorchester man [Savage 2:566]; however, this name appears embedded in a sequence of Hampton men, and so he would be the man of that name who arrived in New England in 1637 and settled in Hampton. On 6 May 1646, another Thomas Jones was made free [MBCR 2:294]; this entry follows a sequence of Dedham men and precedes a Boston man, and so cannot be asigned to the Dorchester man. The colony records appear to be defective with regard to the freemanship of this immigrant.)
BIRTH: About 1594 (aged 40 on 17 July 1635 [Hotten 92]; aged about 75 on 13 November 1667 [DVR 27; NEHGR 4:166]).
DEATH: Dorchester 13 November 1667, aged about 75 [DVR 27; NEHGR 4:166].
