Thomas Hart’s origins have yet to be established. His first confirmed sighting is on 8th January 1765, when he married Sarah Parker at Shipley in Sussex. At the time of their marriage he was living at Billingshurst, about five miles west of Shipley.

Thomas and Sarah settled in Shipley after their marriage, having seven children baptised there between 1766 and 1780, although one died as a baby in 1779.

Thomas died in 1810, being buried at Shipley on 10th May. Sarah survived him by nearly sixteen years.
