Ann Rankin was christened 16dec1795 in Sorn; her mother was Ann Caldwall. Ann RANKIN married Thomas CAMPBELL 17jun1832 in Irvine. A Thomas Campbell, Irvine, was a director of North British Railway (Caledonian Mercury 25mar1824). It is probable Thomas was Thomas Campbell of Annfield (1791-1866), Provost of Irvine from 1850 to 1864, who donated a window to Irvine Old parish church (Irvine wegsite).

Thomas was 1st married to Janet Young (b. abt 1795, Dreghorn); they married 23aug1811 at Dreghorn and 24aug at Irvine (Latter Day Saints). In 1852 Thomas Campbell: of “Annfield”. Conservative Provost (1850-64). Constructor of the Queen’s Bridge (to commemorate Victoria’s Coronation) over the river at Bogside, later known as ‘Campbell’s Bridge’. Campbell voted against the construction of a new prison to replace the Tolbooth, and refused to attend the official opening. The coach house at ‘Annfield’ later became the Fire Station, and the house became a Hotel (web). GWR shares of late John Allan Rankin of Heathfield (d. ?14sep1864) passed to Mrs. Kezia Scott Mackenzie or Rankin, relict, and John Muir, John Harvey, Thomas Campbell, David Gray, John Smith, Alexander Gilmour (findmypast). The death of Thomas Campbell ?11jun1866 was registered by J.A. Campbell and Wm Christie; GWR shares were affected (findmypast).
