He was descended from Alexander of Loupe the dtr of John Lorn. They opposed Robert the Bruce. Alexander was taken prisoner and died 1309.The family name was MacAlister, they fled to Sir Winter DeHamilton settled at Cairnduff parish of Avondale, Lanark, Scotland, and changed the name tp the lowland of Allison. The original estate at Loupe went to the younger brother.
