From George Gale's 1866 Gale Family Records: Col. Gale in the early part of his married life lived in Westchester Co., N.Y., then removed to the central part of the state and finally started the small village of Galeville in Ulster County, N.Y. He was a Colonel in the war of 1812. War of 1812 records in the National Archives show a Sylvanus Gale as a Captain in Hobby's Regiment of the New York Militia. The Hobby family were a long line of military commanders who migrated from Greenwich, Connecticut, to North Castle, Westchester County. References
