In Jack Akerboom's pre-book draft pages, he writes that SUSANNAH and her family ".....migrated by covered wagon from TUSCARAWAS COUNTY, OHIO to WABASH COUNTY, INDIANA in 1848, where they homesteaded on 160 acres of timberland 3 miles south of Wabash. In 1880 they migrated to Cherokee, Kansas".

The Descendants of WILLIAM and SUSANNA LOWER SMITH book says the trip from TUSCARAWAS COUNTY, OHIO to WABASH COUNTY, INDIANA required three weeks.

It seems that the DANIEL LOWER (1792-1876) family (detailed in many WeRelate.org Pages) migrated from TUSCARAWAS COUNTY to WABASH COUNTY, 7 miles north of Wabash, in the same year! However, there is nothing else to suggest that the two families are related. Susannah's ancestors originated in Hirstein, in what is now the German state of Saarland, and were Lutherans. The Lower/Lauer family of the Urbana area were Palatines, who had arrived in America in 1837, and were of the German Reformed faith.
