Susannah Hodges was baptised on 22nd December 1833 at Curry Rivel in Somerset, daughter of Sarah Hodges, formerly Forsey, and her husband William Hodges, a shepherd. The family lived at Burton Pynsent, a hamlet which at that time straddled the parishes of Curry Rivel and Drayton. Although Susannah was baptised at Curry Rivel the family actually lived in the Drayton part of Burton Pynsent. In 1834, when Susannah was less than a year old, her father William died.
The 1841 and 1851 censuses find Susannah living with her mother and siblings at Burton Pynsent. In 1851 she was working as a glover. She has yet to be researched after 1851.
