The surname Hass has variant spellings of Haas, Hoss, Hess and Haus. Susannah may have been born in Hardin County, Ohio. Had 10 Children - 6 daughters and 1 son grew to maturity. From the History of Hocking Valley, pg. 1161 & 1162: "Jacob Byerly was an early settler in Swan Township, locating in 1820 in his 21st year, having been born Feb 20, 1799. He married Susan Hass the same year...Mr. Byerly was a straightforward, honorable man, and was well known in McArthur. He was a carpenter by trade." From Vinton County Wonderland of Ohio, pg. 27: "A well-known mechanic - a carpenter by the name of Jacob Byerly located in Swan township in 1820. He was well-known in particular because his wife was the largest woman in a whole section of the country -- at the time of her death she weighed 330 pounds and they had ten children.
