Variations in spelling of the surname include Beyerly and Bierly. I have a note that Susannah (sometimes called Susan) was the daughter of Abraham Hass or Haas, however, I did not note the source for that information. Further research is necessary.

Had 10 Children - 6 daughters and 1 son grew to maturity.

From the History of Hocking Valley, pg. 1161 & 1162: "Jacob Byerly was an early settler in Swan Township, locating in 1820 in his 21st year, having been born Feb 20, 1799. He married Susan Hass the same year...Mr. Byerly was a straightforward, honorable man, and was well known in McArthur. He was a carpenter by trade."

From Vinton County Wonderland of Ohio, pg. 27: "A well-known mechanic - a carpenter by the name of Jacob Byerly located in Swan township in 1820. He was well-known in particular because his wife was the largest woman in a whole section of the country -- at the time of her death she weighed 330 pounds and they had ten children. Mr. Byerly evidently had a heavy responsibility."

The History of Hocking Valley, pg. 1312, tells of the story of the Bray family. "John Bray, Jr., remained with his father till he was past twenty-one years of age, and Jan 16, 1841, was married to Catharine Byerly. Mrs. Bray was born in Swan Township, Vinton County, Oct. 18, 1824, a daughter of Jacob Byerly, one of the first settlers of the township, coming here about 1820."

History of Hocking Valley, pg. 1043: Jacob Beyerly was elected Judge on 9 Oct 1821 in the first election held in Starr Twp., Hocking Co. Portions of Hocking County became a part of Vinton County, Ohio in 1850.

Scioto Gazette, Jan 16, 1840: Chillicothe, 08 Jan 1840: Outpouring of the Democratic Harrisonians of Old Ross: Pursuant to public notice, a very large, respectable & enthusiastic meeting of the citizens of Ross Co., Ohio, who are friendly to the election of William henry Harrison to the Presidency and John Tyler, to the Vice Presidency joined in Paint Street, Chillicothe. The Hon. William creighton spoke at some length on the incasures and tendencies of the present and previous Administrations and of the ruinous results which had followed the workings of the modern currency-tinkers. He vindicated the character of Gen. Harrison, from the aspersions which party slanders have sought to cast upon it. "They call him an Old Granny! Very well - he is a granny, who will deliver this country on the 4th of March, 1841, of the greatest litter of political scamps, that were ever produced." The following named persons be appointed delegates to the Convention, Feb. 22, 1840, in Columbus: ... Jacob Byerly, John Byerly, John Beyerley...
