Buckman Services Tomorrow

Miss Phronia Buckman, daughter of the late Harry C. and Agnes Olds Buckman, formerly of this city and later of Potsdam, died Saturday morning at her home in Potsdam after a year's illness.
Funeral Services will be held from the First Methodist church Monday afternoon at 2. The Rev. Paul A. Roy will officiate. The body will be placed in the vault at Ogdensburg to await burial in the family plot in the spring.
Miss Buckman's nearest surviving relatives are a number of cousins, among whom are Loren O. Bailey and Mrs. Fred Lovelace of this city, and Charles P. Weaver of Cleveland, Ohio.
Mrs. Lovelace spent the past week assisting in caring for Miss Buckman. She was employed for many years as secretary and clerk in the office of Attorney Fred L. Cubley in Potsdam, but was obliged to give up her work a year ago because of failing health.
Miss Buckman was born in Ogdensburg and graduated from Ogdensburg Free Academy. Both she and her parents were members of the Methodist Church during their residence here and later became affliated with the Methodist Church of Potsdam. Miss Buckman's father, Harry C. Buckman, was a well known newspaper man of Ogdensburg during the early years of his life. He was city editor of the Ogdensburg Advance when it was owned by George F. Darrow. Resigning, he went to Syracuse and opened a grocery, which he conducted for some time, and then sold out and moved to Potsdam, where he became foreman of the composing room in the Potsdam Courier-Freeman newspaper office, where he was employed until his death. He and his brother, Zina B. Buckman, afterwards in the U.S. Customs service at Ottawa for many years, established and operated the old Ogdensburg News in its early days.
The newspaper office at that time was located on the second floor of the Hasbrouck building over the present Hess and Chase Furniture Store. The Buckman brothers sold out to the late Henry Holland, afterwards collector of the port, who operated the paper until it suspended.
Miss Buckman's mother was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Carlos Olds and a sister of the late Frank F. Bailey and Mrs. Benton E. Weaver. Mr. Olds was a well known carpenter and builder of his day.
Miss Buckman possessed an attractive personality and many gracious qualities which won her numerous friends both in this city and her later home in Potsdam, and sincere regrets were expressed here when the news of her death was received.
