It is not certain where he was born. In the 1870 census, when the family lived in Mason, West Virginia, he is the only member of the family whose birthplace is given as Kentucky. All the rest (except for Mary, the baby) were supposedly born in Ohio. However, his death record[2] indicates that he was born in Germantown, Ohio.
