[edit] Biographical Notes Written by Cheryl Courrege Burguieres, August 1972:Simon Courrege, father of Jean Courrege, was born in 1829 in Tournous Darre of Hautes Pyrenees (Tarbes). This area is in southwestern France, close to the Spanish border - directly north of Lourdes. He was one of four brothers, all who decided to come to America (one brother stayed in New Orleans; another in Biloxi, Mississippi). He married Marguerite Couget on April 20, 1854. Although both came from the same area in France, they met in New Orleans, not having known each other before. A strong, dignified looking man, his characteristics were described on a passport dated 1860. He was described as being of brunette coloring, having brown hair and eyes, and of having an oval face with round chin and long nose. He died at the age of 81, on November 18, 1910. Image Gallery
