Personal History

Simeon Stone, third son of Jonathan Stone[7] and Abiel[4] (Bigelow), was baptized 9 February 1723/4, in Framingham, Province of Massachusetts Bay, after the death of his father and on the same day as his three brothers,[4] and was said to be in his 15th year of age on 8 April 1734.[7]

In the will of his grandfather, Nathaniel Stone, dated 23 June 1732,[8] the heirs of “my third son Jonathan Ston being deceased” were bequeathed a tract of land in Framingham of about 50 acres “to be distributed by Abiele Ston the relict widow.” On 12 March 1734,[7] in Framingham, Simeon Stone, aged 14 years, son of Jonathan Stone late of Framingham, along with his brothers Jonathan and Reuben, signed a letter declaring that he had chosen Micah Stone to be his guardian. On 8 April 1734, Micah Stone of Framingham, husbandman, signed bonds in the amount of £200 each for granting the three guardianships.

Mr. Simon Stone and his wife, Hannah, from Framingham, came to Rutland. He bought land laid to Lieut. Simon Davis, and set up a tannery, (supposed to be the first in town,) where he for several years carried on the tanning and currying business; he sold and bought a farm now owned by his son, Jonas, originally granted to Samuel Sewall, Esq. Mr. Stone was of the same family as others of that name that settled in Rutland. Part of their children were born in Rutland: Daniel, Feb. 23, 1747-8; David, Feb. 24, 1749; Jonas, Aug. 10, 1752; Lucy, Aug., 1754, second Daniel, May 28, 1757; Susanna, Nov. 15, 1760. One daughter is now living, aged 90 years.
The family by the name of Stone that settled in Rutland were respectable, - their descendants are numerous and settled in various parts of America.
