Mrs. Ida Josephine Nix Bennett, 81, of Rt. 1, WeatUnion, the Fairview community, died at her home Wednesday after an lilness (sp) of five months. Native of Oconee County, she lived inthecommunity 12 years and was the daughter of the late William and Telesa Guinn NIX. She was the last surviving member of her immediaate family and a former textile worker. Her husband, James Bennett, died in 1955. She was a member of Salem First Baptist Church. Surviving are three sons, Ralph Bennett of the home, John Bennett of Walhalla and Ecrum Bennett of Anderson; three daughters, Mrs. Mattie Grant of the home, Mrs. Essie Corn, and Mrs. Bessie Lee of Seneca: 15 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchilden. Funeral services were conducted Thursday at Fairview Methodist Church by Rev. Donald Hope, Rev. Carl Edgar and Rev. W/ Lee Parince. Burial was ni (sp) Oconee Memorial Park. Paulbearers were Paul and J.B. McMahan, B.Q. Barnes, Harold Kelley, S.C. Biggerstaff and Luther Singleton.

The second wife of William Nix was apparently his first wife's sister-in-law. William Nix first married Elizabeth Littleton, and her brother William Littleton married Seleta Guinn. Both Elizabeth and William were children of James and Sarah (or Susannah) Littleton. William NIX returned from the war but William Littleton died. After the war William Nix left Elizabeth and married her sister-in-law, Seleta (Littleton) Guinn. I think that I have heard stories that the two William solders promised each other that if one did not return the other would care for his family. It appears William NIX took this promise to heart, abandoned his wive and family and married his fellow solders widow. I do not know if William and Seleta Littleton had any children before the war started. But William and Seleta NIX had three children after the war.

6. ASA5 LITTLETON (WILLIAM4, SAVAGE3, THOMAS2, JOHN1) was born 1810 in SC, and died in Oconee County, South Carolina. He married NANCY NIX. She was born 1813 in SC, and died in Oconee County, South Carolina.

Former Oconee Woman Succumbs in Atlanta

Mrs. Amanda Aretha Guinn Williams, wife of Warren Rufus Williams, died at her home, 160 Daniel Avenue, Atlanta, Ga. April 18.

Mrs. Williams was born in Oconee Co near Salem, February 23, 1887. She was the daughter of the late W.B. and Linda Albertson Guinn.

In addition to her husband she is survived by five daughters, Mrs. Freeman Sutton of Welchcove, N.C., Miss Birdie Williams of Fountain Dam, N.C., Misses Beatrice, Margaret, and Mildred Williams of Atlanta, and one son< W.R. Williams Jr., of the U.S. Army, overseas; four sisters, Miss Ella Guinn and Mrs. J.C. Rochester of Atlanta, Mrs. Andrew Murphy of Griffin, Ga., and Mrs. W.T. Collins of Walhalla; three brothers, Richard Guinn, of Mobile, Ala., Davis Guinn, of Atlanta and Otto Guinn of Walhalla.

Funeral services were conducted Saturday, April 21 at 3 o'clock at Trinity chapel with the Rev. L.D. Kimbrly officiating. Interment was in East View Cemetery.

Mrs. Williams formerly lived in Walhalla and has many friends here who will regret to learn of her death.
