    Sarah Wallace was born abt 1763 in probably VA. She died 1846 in Lafayette Co MO. She was the SECOND wife of Capt. John B. Cartmill b. abt 1751 Newlin Twp., Chester Co PA and died in 15 Jan 1845 Lafayette Co MO. He married Sarah Wallace (whose father is possibly William Wallace) about 1784. At that time he lived in Botetourt County in the Cartmill District (which was near the James River) and Purgatory Mountain -- off present day Hwy 81.
    Capt. John was in the Militia, participated to a great extent in the Rev. War and is listed in the Historical Register of Virginians in Rev War; was the Sheriff of Botetourt County (a huge county at the time). At the age of 28 on 13 MAY 1779 HE IS NOTED AS A lIEUTENANT TAKING AN OATH OF OFFICE IN COURT.
    Capt. John first married about 1768 Anna Skillern (abt 1745 VA-1783 VA) daughter of William Skillern and Elizabeth Anderson. They had 7 children. Capt John and his second wife, Sarah Wallace Cartmill had four children: John B. Cartmill Jr (abt 1785 - ?), Mary Polly Cartmill 1786-1850; William Wallace Cartmill 1789-1845; and Elizabeth Cartmill 1790-1860.
    Through the years the Cartmill, Skillern, and Wallace names continue to found in the same areas, with many marriages between them occurring.
