Hello, I am new to this list. I am researching the Steele and Trimble surnames in Rockbridge and Augusta Counties for the period prior to 1800. I am also interested in the Montgomery and Patton families which lived in these counties. I would like to share info on any of these families.

I am a descendant of Samuel Steele (c. 1759-1845) and Sarah Trimble who were married August 15, 1782. I believe my Samuel Steele line is Richard Steele-Mary Scurlock>Samuel Steele(1)-Margaret Fulton>Samuel Steele(2)-Sarah Hunter>Samuel Steele(3)-Sarah Trimble. Sarah Trimble was the daughter of James Trimble and Sarah McCrady.

I am also interested in knowing the Trimble family of James Trimble born 1781 in Rockbridge Co. who became a prominent attorney and Judge in Knoxville and Nashville TN. I believe he may be a brother or cousin of my Sarah Trimble. This James Trimble was the law tutor for Sam Houston. The Trimbles, Houstons and Steele's were all members of the Tinkling Springs Presbyterian Church in Rockbridge Co.
