Facts and Events
Sarah Stanion was baptised on 6th February 1795 at Oundle in Northamptonshire, daughter of Mary Stanion, formerly Braybrook, and her husband Blundell Kilsby Stanion. On 8th October 1817, aged 22, Sarah married Charles Curtis, a labourer from the nearby parish of Benefield. They married at Oundle, but then settled in Benefield after their marriage, having two sons there in 1818 and 1825. Their sons’ baptisms note that the family lived in the Upper Benefield part of the parish. Their younger son died as a baby in 1825, and Charles died too later that year, less than two months after his son’s death. Just under three years later Sarah married again. She married an agricultural labourer called John Berridge at Benefield on 17th June 1828. Sarah and John went on to have three children baptised at Benefield between 1831 and 1836. Back in Oundle, Sarah’s mother died in 1835. Sarah died a month after the baptism of her youngest daughter, being buried at Benefield on 21st July 1836. She was 41 years old. Her baby daughter did not long outlive her, being buried just over six weeks later. Sarah’s father outlived her by a couple of months. John survived Sarah by nearly sixteen years and remarried in 1837. References
