Sarah Elizabeth Savage was born in 1848 at Portsmouth in Hampshire, daughter of Caroline Savage, formerly Mason, and her husband Walter Savage, a last maker. Sadly she died when she was less than a year old, being buried on 18th March 1849.

    Although these death and burial registers give her name as "Elizabeth Savage" whereas the birth was in the name of "Sarah Elizabeth Savage", they are considered to be the same person. No other explanation has been found for what happened to the Sarah Elizabeth Savage born in 1848 otherwise, no other candidate born locally who could be the Elizabeth Savage who died in March 1849 has been found, and the address given of Hampton Street corresponds with the address given on her mother Caroline's burial record a few months later.
