    Sarah Post (17), born at Saybrook 6 Nov., 1659, the second daughter of Hester Hyde (3) and John Post, was a granddaughter of William Hyde (1) the first of Norwich. She m. 17 January, 1680, Capt. John Hough, b. 17 October, 1655, at New London, the second son of William Hough and Sarah Calkins of New London.

    [This William Hough was the son of Edward Hough of Westchester, in the county of Cheshire, in England. He came to Glocester, Mass., and married there 28 Oct., 1645, Sarah Calkins, daughter of Hugh Calkins and Anne his wife - of Gloucester, who afterwards came to New London, and had four sons and six daughters. Samuel,
    the eldest son, born at New London 9 March, 1653, m. 25 Nov., 1679, Susanna Wrotham of Farmington, and had by her two sons and one daughter; and after her death he m. 18 Aug., 1685, Mary Bate, and settled and died at Saybrook, and had by her one son and one daughter. "William Hough, his brother, married Anne Lathrop, daughter of Samuel Lathrop of Norwich. Hannah, the eldest sister, m. 1662, John Borden, and settled at Lyme. Abiah, their second sister, m. 1667, William Douglass. And Sarah, their third sister, m. David Carpenter. See Calk. New London, 303.]

    Capt. John Hough was a house carpenter, and resided at Norwich for a short time after his marriage. They subsequently settled at New London, where he was a man of considerable distinction. He was killed at New London 26 Aug., 1715, by falling from a building upon which he was at work.

    111. Mary Post (18), born at Norwich in 1662, the third daughter of Hester Hyde (3) and John Post, was a granddaughter of William Hyde (1) the first of Norwich. She m. 16 April, 1685, Nathaniel Rudd of Norwich. He was a son of Jonathan Rudd of Hartford, who removed to Saybrook, and was m. 1647, at Bride Brook. He came to Norwich soon after its settlement (See No 91). They settled at Norwich, where she died in Nov., 1705.
