    Granddaughter of John McCutcheon and Elizabeth "Betsey" Hodge McCutcheon and of John Benson;

    Sister of Albert G. McCutcheon (Wife, Mary Jane Woodward), Margaret H. McCutcheon (Mrs. David F. Lowman), Martha E. H. McCutcheon (Mrs. Madison G. Davidson), John Benson McCutcheon (Wife, Mary Catherine Woodward), George Washington McCutcheon (Wife, Sophia Jane Lockridge), William H. McCutcheon (Wife, Martha), Col. James Samuel Kerr McCutcheon (who commanded all of the Confederate Troops in West Virginia during the Civil War and later moved out to California to live with other family...he did not marry), Robert Andrew McCutcheon (Wife, Margaret Anna Buckey) and Mary Ellen McCutcheon (who died at the age of 18).

    Sarah Jane was the Wife of Stephen Lewis Ruddell, whom she married on January 28, 1839 when she was 20 years old. The couple moved to Gilmer County, West Virginia, where they raised their children and lived most of their adult lives.

    Mother of James Cornelius Ruddell (Wife, Laura E. Griffin), Virginia M. Ruddell (who died at the age of 22), Martha "Mamie" Ruddell (who died at the age of 8), Ellen Amanda Ruddell (Mrs. Rev. David Harlan King), Elizabeth Catheriania "Bettie" Ruddell (who died at the age of 27), George Lewis Ruddell (1st Wife, Mary Elvia Fredlock, who passed away and 2nd Wife, Margaret Anna McCoy), Mary Margaret Ruddell (who also died at the age of 8), William Kerr Ruddell (Wife, Anna Eagan), Lewis Burnett Ruddell (Wife, Bettie Rosaland Rowan) and Robert Lee Ruddell (Wife, Margaret "Maggie" Fetty).

    Sarah Jane buried two of her daughters when they were still very young children and two more of her daughters when they were still young women. Sarah's sons became successful Merchants, Businessmen and Farmers.

    Sarah became a Widow in 1886 when her husband Stephen passed away....she then went to live with her remaining Daughter Ellen, Ellen's husband and Ellen's four children. In 1900 they were all liviing in New Jersey.

    Sarah died at the age of 85 in New Jersey, while living with her Daughter, Son-in-law and Grandchildren. She was taken back to West Virginia and is buried with some of her family in her "long time home town" of Glenville, Gilmer County in the Old Glenville Cemetery.
