[The informant is daughter Lillian, b. 1872. Identification of her mother's father, i.e., her grandfather, as Joseph Hoxie is intriguing because it raises the possibility of a fourth marriage/relationship for Phebe to account for the date problems surrounding Sarah's birth, above. But checking suggests it didn't happen. Namely, one finds that a Joseph Hoxie d. 1859, age 90, as a widower. He could not have married Phebe, as she would not have been available to marry in 1838 if they had. The next Joseph Hoxie m. 1790 Deborah Wing who d. in 1825, and he d. in 1856 also called a "widower" in death record. He is ruled out for the same reason. His son, "Joseph Hoxie 3d", m. 1823 Lucy Holway and when Lucy died, he m. (2) 1838 Mary Holway, so this appears to rule him out. That appears to account for all the Joseph Hoxies. There is no marriage record of a Joseph Hoxie to Phebe Hoxie, nor is there a record showing a Joseph Hoxie dying between 1831 (Sarah's birth) and 1838 (Phebe remarried). Of course, one possible answer is that Sarah was born out of wedlock. But that is hard to assert given no explicit evidence, and the uncertainty over the death date of Peleg. Without going there, it doesn't appear that a marriage to Joseph Hoxie ever happened, hence we conclude the informant was thinking of Joseph Fuller, who, however, was not really Sarah's father, just her step-father, and that Peleg was her father, and that either her birth, or his death, was recorded wrong.]
