- Source:Fuller, William Hyslop. Genealogy of Some Descendants of Captain Matthew Fuller, John Fuller of Newton, John Fuller of Lynn, John Fuller of Ipswich,, p. 89, says Joseph Fuller m. Phebe Hoxie, d/o of Jesse and Rebecca, which is confirmed by her death record. There is no mention of a previous marriage, and since the name at marriage matches her birth name, one is not inclined to think there was one. But at the same time, Source:History of Barnstable County, Massachusetts, p. 317, apparently interviewing George Hoxie of Sandwich in 1890, says he is the son of Peleg Hoxie and Phebe Hoxie, b. 1822, the mother being a daughter of Jesse Hoxie. No mention is made of other marriages, though it is clear from records that Peleg Hoxie married (widow) Phebe Allen, and Samuel Allen married Phebe Hoxie. So both claim the daughter of Jesse Hoxie, even though neither acknowledges the other. Based on the dates of death of the earlier husbands, and the pattern of surnames (namely the reacquisition of the surname Hoxie), it appears all three marriages belong to the same woman.
