Sarah Forsey was born in about 1837 at Combe St Nicholas in Somerset. She was the daughter of a laundress named Fanny Forsey, formerly North, and her husband Francis Forsey, a carpenter. The family did not stay long in Combe St Nicholas; both Sarah's parents were from Winsham and the family returned to Winsham shortly after her birth.
The 1841 census finds Sarah living with her mother and siblings at Bridge, a hamlet in Winsham parish. Her father was away from home on census night. In 1851 Sarah was working as a domestic servant for a carpenter's family in Winsham village.
By 1861 census Sarah had returned to live with her parents, who by this time were living at Back Lane in Winsham. At this time she was working in a woollen factory. The family moved to Fore Street some time between 1861 and 1871. In both 1871 and 1881 she was described as a glover.
Sarah's father died in 1885. Sarah continued living with her mother and working as a laundress. Her mother died in 1893. Sarah continued to live at Fore Street alone, appearing there in the 1901 and 1911 censuses. She died in 1919, aged about 82.
