  • Sarah Cosand, daughter of Charles and Elva Cosand, was born in Perquiman's county, North Carolina, December 13, 1818, and departed this life at her home in Franklin township, February 26 last, aged 74 years, 2 months and 12 days. She was married to Wilber S. White February 14, 1839. They emigrated to Indiana in 1856 and settled near Rich Square, where she died. Seven children were born to them. Two died in Infancy, and five remaining, three sons and two daughters, grew to manhood and womanhood. They present with their father to pay the last sad rites to one so dearly beloved. She was a member of/or of the society of friends and here religion was characterized by her honesty of purpose in all things. Her afflictions were severe, yet she bore them with Christian fortitude, frequently saying that she was willing to submit to the will of Him who doeth all things well. Thus ends the life of a-true neighbor, a faithful wife and a noble mother on earth, but we trust will shine forth in that better world, where sickness, desease or death are not permitted to enter.
  • It is believed that at least some of the children (if not all of the children) of Willis S. White and Sarah Cosand, attended the Rich Square Academy (School), located just west of the home of Willis S. White. Sarah probably attended the Rich Square Friends Church, also located to the west of their home.
