Facts and Events
Sarah COLLINS was born on 18 Jul 1709 in Westerly, Rhode Island. Birth recorded in the Westerly monthly meeting Quaker Records. Parents: John COLLINS and Susannah DAGGETT. She was married to Ebenezer MOTT in 1745 in New Jersey. Children were: Abigail MOTT, John MOTT, Sarah MOTT, Barsheba MOTT, Ruth MOTT, Huldah MOTT, Ebenezer MOTT, Martha MOTT. Her birthdate is recorded in the Collins genealogy, but she first makes her appearance in the record books as the wife of Ebenezer Mott in South Kingston, RI in 1744. There 'Ebenezer and Sarah Mott' witnessed the marriage of her brother John. Certificates issued by Quaker monthly meetings to move appear over the next several years locating her from South Kingston to Little Egg Harbor, New Jersey to the Burlington Monthly meeting when she and her husband took up their final residence in Mount Holly, New Jersey. She appears on her husbands will of 1770, but there is little else known about her. There was a family tradition that she was a great Quaker preacher who was memorialized by the Westerly, RI Monthly Meeting in their published (1814) memorial to the saints. Examination of that document concludes that this was a different Sarah Mott. References
