Sarah was one of the remarkable breed of pioneer women who not only managed such household duties of the time such as breadmaking & manufacturing most of the goods needed - for instance, soap, but also helped with the farm labour even going so farms to teach the farm hand how to slaughter the sheep! As well as this, she opened the first telephone exchange in the district and operated it for twenty years.
