Samuel A. was born in Augusta Co., Va, in 1796, and moved with his family to Blount Co., TN.in 1819. All the Torbetts attended the New Providence Presbyterian Church in Marysville, Blount Co. He married Elizabeth Council Feb 22, 1822 in Knox Co., TN. Smauel and Elizabeth lived in Knox county and in Marion county TN. Samuel and Elizabeth had 9 Children. After Elizabeth's death, Samuel married Margaret McCaully. In 1850 Samuel and Margaret were living in Murray Co., GA, and later moved to Gadston AL. Samuel and Margaret had 3 children. This family lived in Knox Co, Tennessee for awhile and later moved to Marion Co, Tennessee prior to 1840. They later moved to Gadsden, AL. Samuel was a carpenter. Torbit, S.A., 64, Farmer, b. VA; Margaret, 55, housewife,b. SC; John, 20, Farmer, b. TN; Hesteran, 15, housekeeper, b.GA. He is mentioned in his father's will of 1839 in Blount Co., TN as having sold his plantation to his father. He did not inherit anything from his father, but his son, Samuel Pleasant inherited his grandfather's Saddle. Samuel A would have been Abt 43 years old when his father wrote his will, and his son Samuel Pleasent b. 1834, would have been only 4. Samuel died in Gadston Alabama on Apr 2, 1867.
