Described by those who knew her as a good neighbor and a true friend, Roberta
STORY, born to an Allen pioneer family, died Friday, July 24, at age 92.
Services were held Sunday at the First Christian Church of Allen with the
Revs. Greg and Martha Jean FITCH officiating. Burial was in Ridgeview Memorial
    Park in Allen.
"She loved us and let us know she loved us," said Janelle HILL, Story's
niece. "Everybody loves, but only some people let you know it," she said.
Roberta STORY, born in Allen in 1905 to H.T. and Mae FARRELL MILLER, attended
school in Allen from 1913 through graduation. In the 1940s she returned to
the district, working in the lunchroom.
She married Allen native Alvis C. STORY, who would become a leader in the
community and the namesake of Story Elementary School. The couple moved to a
farm outside Allen after they were married, but moved to the town in December
    1945.
STORY served as a member of the Allen ISD school board from 1943-1949.
During that time, the district faced being consolidated into the McKinney
school district. STORY and other board members recruited teachers to keep the
district going. He also served as city secretary from 1953 to 1972. He died
    in 1991.
During their 66 year marriage, family members said Roberta forged her own
legacy as a loving wife and mother.
Hill said Roberta taught all who knew her the true meaning of Christianity,
marriage and love. "She honored marriage. She respected marriage and
dedicated her life to taking care of Alvis," Hill said.
Roberta, Hill said, was affectionately called "Dutch" and took great pride in
her "little white house with the green shutters on the corner of Main Street."
She welcomed and fed her family and friends her famous fried chicken, hot
    rolls and chocolate pie.
Hill said she has memories of her aunt, whom she and others affectionately
called "Mama Dutch," waking her up to lick the batter off a bowl used to make
    one of those chocolate pies.
Hill said the naming of the school in her husband's honor was the one thing
she was most proud of other than her family.
"It's hard for me to put into words," said June SNODDY, her daughter. She
describes her mother as loving and a person who wanted to be surrounded by all
    who loved her.
Hill said even though "Dutch" will be greatly missed it is "comforting to
know that she is joyful and is rejoicing because she is in heaven being
    reunited with 'Pop.' "
Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Chester and Mickey STORY of
McKinney; daughter and son-in-law, June and Raymond SNODDY of Allen'; seven
    grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; brother, Thomas MILLER of Tennessee;
sisters Iva MORROW of Allen and Elsie CARPENTER and Betty TAYLOR, both of
Plano; and several nieces and nephews.
