"Smedley, Samuel, s. of Samuel. Baptist Smedley of Concord (d. 16 Aug. 1675) m. 27 Mar. 1645, Katharine Shorthose; had son Samuel, b. 27 Mar. 1646, killed in K. Philip’s War, 2 Aug. 1675; he m. 11 July 1667, Hannah Wheeler, and had a son Samuel, b. 28 Feb. 1673 [ 1673/4]. The last-named, called son of Samuel 'sometime of Concord deceased,' 4 Apr. 1690 appeared at Fairfield and chose Mr. Simon Davis of Concord as guardian. (* Case 20544, Middlesex Probate Records; … Samuel's mother was dau. of Ephraim Wheeler of Fairfield; …) We suppose from this that he lived as a boy with Wheeler relatives in Fairfield; and he certainly returned here."
