    [Note: Samuel is case 6674, his son Samuel is case 6675. Both were opened in 1832, the death of the son apparently motivating the opening of probate for the father 10 years after his death. The documents are not distinguished by Sr. and Jr. and at least one is intermixed.]
    Will book E, p. 257 Will of "Samuel Sherman of the Town of Norway" dated 3 Aug 1820, proved 12 Mar 1832, names wife Sarah; four youngest sons viz George, Samuel, David & Josiah; eldest daughter Priscilla Benjamin, eldest son Wright Sherman, second son Humphrey Sherman, second daughter Cynthia Sherman [unmarried], third daughter Ruth Randall, youngest daughter Sarah Sherman [unmarried]. Sons George & Samuel to be executors.
    [An inventory dated 5 Apr 1832 in this file belongs to the son: sworn to by his widow Polly who was administrator, and many of the items he owned one fourth part of, they being given to the four youngest sons in the will above.]
    2 Jan 1832: Deposition of Josiah Sherman, son of Samuel Sherman late of the town of Norway deceased that said Samuel died about 10th January 1822, leaving Sarah Sherman widow and children: Wright Sherman of Oswego County; Humphrey Sherman of Wayne County; Ruth Randall wife of Phineas Randall of Oswego County; George Sherman, David Sherman, Priscilla wife of Joshua Benjamin, Cynthia Sherman, Sarah wife of James Baker and deponent all of Herkimer County; that one other son Samuel Sherman who is since deceased leaving Polly Sherman his widow & one child Jane Sherman an Infant under the age of fourteen Years. Heirs cited to appear to consider proving will.
    2 Jan 1832: Polly Sherman appointed guardian of Jane Sherman and her interests in this will.
