About Samuel Ritchie

Samuel Ritchie was married once, abt. 1790 to Anne Porter, daughter of Patrick and Susanna (Walker) Porter. They had no children together. In 1792, Samuel went to Russell County, Virginia court and requested an annulment on two counts of infidelity (it is unclear if the court requested his annulment request). He then in 1797 took Frances Kindrick, daughter of Patrick Kindrick as his "common-law wife", and had one son and five daughters with her.

In Samuel's will, he named his "common-law wife" Frances Kindrick as follows:

To my friend, Frances Kindrick, the tract of land whereon I now live of 290 acres, also $200, also 1/6 of my estate.
