He is shown in 1749 on a petition to build a road to market and court. He was granted 120 acres of land 3 Nov 1753, on a branch of Buffalo Creek, a tributary of the James River. He is shown deliquent in taxes in 1753-1754 and the record states that he is out of the county. Two years later, he was given two grants of land in Cabarrus County, NC & settled there until time of his death. His will was proved 21 Oct 1799 by the oaths of John Wilson, James Smith and Elizabeth Tassey. Samuel Patton was a member of the Provincial Congress of NC 25 Aug 1774 & also a member of the Continental Congress. He was granted a pension for services in the Revolutionary War when he was 79 years old (ref: Records, Colonial and State of North Carolina, Volume 10, page 780)
