    Samuel Newall, Jr., was sent in 1776 by the commandant at Fort Patrick Henry to bring the Raven, the Indian chief at Choto. In 1778 he was on scout duty with Captain Dysart in the Powell and Clinch valleys. At King's Mountain he was on expedition against the cherokee's. He settled in Sevier County.
