Source is Mary M Irwin Memoirs, unpublished [edit] Personal History1840 - Birth: Samuel McLean was born about 1840 on the Isle of Islay, Argyll, Scotland. Source is 1841 Scotland census. The grave marker in the Knox Presbyterian Cemetery says aged 19 years (this means that he was born in 1843 - but that is impossible as he was enumerated in the 1841 Scotland census). The age listed in the 1861 Canada census is also troublesome as it means he was born in 1843 - 2 years after the 1841 Scotland census. 1841 - Census: Samuel McLean 1 was living with his parents, John McLean 36 and Isabella McLean 24?? and siblings Barbara 12, Margaret 9 (spelled Margarat in this census) Flora 7, Bella 5, and Mary 3, in Portweemys (now Port Wemyss) on the Isle of Islay, Scotland. Source is 1941 Census of Scotland. 1847? - Immigration: Samuel McLean, abt 7, immigrated to Canada with his family in 1847. 1851 - 1851 Canada census for Oro Township did not survive. Source is Library and Archives Canada. 1861 - Census: Samuel McLean 18, was living with his father John McLean 60 and his siblings: Margaret 20 and Duncan 16. Two members of the household were missing. Source is 1861 Census of Canada. 1862 - Death and Burial: On February 1, 1862, Samuel McLean 19, died. Source is the grave marker in the Knox Presbyterian Cemetery. He was buried in Knox Presbyterian Cemetery, 1604 Line 9 North, Oro-Medonte, Ontario.
