His 1895 death registration says that his parents were McLean and Gilchrist (this is also confirmation of his mother's maiden name.) Also he was listed as brother-in-law of John McNiven (this means he is Mary McLean's brother) in 1891 census. Spouse: Never married. Siblings: Barbara McLean (married Mitchell), Margaret McLean (Wright), Flora McLean (Robinson), Isobel McLean (Smith), Mary McLean (McNiven) and Samuel McLean (died young). Source is 1881 and 1891 censes. 1895 Death registration says he was 47 (i.e. born in 1844) and born in Portweemys, Islay, Scotland. Grave marker says he was aged 49 years (i.e. born in 1846). 1851 - 1851 Canada census for Oro Township did not survive. Source is Library and Archives Canada. 1861 - Census: Duncan McLean 16, was living with his father John McLean 60, sister Mary 20 and brother Samuel 18 in a one story log house in Oro Township. Source is 1861 Census of Canada NOTE: The age given in the census is the age at the next birthday. Two family members were missing from this census. 1871 - Census: In April, 1871, Duncan McLean 24 was living with his father John McLean 70 and his siblings: Margaret 32, Isabella 28, and Mary 22. Source is 1871 Canada census. 1881 - Census: Duncan McLean 38, Farmer, was living in the John McNiven household in Oro with his brother-in-law John McNiven 39, his sister Mary McNiven 39 and their two daughters Annie 6 and Barbara 4. Source is 1881 Canada census. 1891 - Census: On May 19, 1891, Duncan McLean (incorrectly spelled McLain in this census), 48 Labourer, unmarried, was living in the John McNiven household in Oro with his brother-in-law John McNiven 50, his sister Mary McNiven 50 and their two daughters Annie 16 and Barbara 14. Source is 1891 Census of Canada. 1895 - Death and Burial: On March 14, 1895, Duncan McLean 47, Labourer, died. He died of cancer of the liver.
