"Samuel Huntington, born October 16, 1723, in Lebanon, Conn. He graduated at Yale in 1743, studied theology and was a short time a preacher. He afterwards became a merchant, and resided in Lebanon, Canterbury, and East Haddam. … He was chosen deacon of the Canterbury church, while living there, March 26, 1753. About the year 1769 he removed to East Haddam, where he continued to reside until his death, March 20, 1797. He probably went to Canterbury about the year 1752, as that is the date of his own and his first wife's admission to the church there by letter. … He was chosen deacon and clerk of the church in East Haddam in 1770. He was a justice of the peace in East Haddam and a public man of considerable note."
