Darby, Samuel - applied for Pension 1834 in Preston County, Virginia; Pension Application rejected, insufficient proof of service; file marked fradulent; query letter in file states soldier's service was in New Jersey, resided in Monongalia County, Virginia, thence to Preston County, where he died in 1850 at age 98; query letter in file in 1928 (in F-S10525 of another Samuel Darby, Revolutionary War soldier from New Jersey) from descendant Milton M. Darby, Fairchance, PA, states soldier who died in Virginia in 1850 served in Essex County, New Jersey & was buried across the Virginia line in Wharton Township, Fayette County, PA. F-R13662, R740.
