Phillip O'Reilly OBITUARY (Syracuse Post Standard, Thursday January 8, 1925,page 9, column 4) SAMUEL BURNS, FORMER RAILROAD BUILDER DIES Samuel Burns, well known Syracusan, died yesterday at Crouse-Irving Hospital where he had been a patient several days. He had charge of construction work for the New York Central Railroad on its western division for 47 years. He was father of William J. Burns, leading contractor in Syracuse for many years. Surviving are two sons, Samuel J. and Joseph P. Burns; a brother, Patrick Burns; and a nephew, Reverend James H. Burns of Oriskany Falls. The funeral will take place at the family home, 262 Tremont Street, at 9:00 Saturday morning and half an hour later in the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, where a solemn high mass will be cele brated. Burial will be in St. Agnes Cemetery. References
