    Will of Lieut. Samuel Ayer of Haverhill
    "In the name of God amen. I Samuel Ayer of Haverhill is the County of Essex in New England Gen. Being very Sick of Body but of perfect mind & memory thanks be given unto God therefore calling to mind the mortality of my Body, and knowing that it is appointed for all men Once to die, Do make & ordain this my Last Will & Testament That it to say principally and first of all I give and Recommend my Soul unto the hands pf God that gave it, and my Body I recommend to the Earth to be buried In decent Christian burial at the Diferetion of my executor, Nothing doubling best as the general refurection I shall receive the same again by the mighty power of God, and as Touching such worldly estate, Wherewith it hath pleased God to Bless me in this life, I give Demise & dispose of same in of following manner & form. - I give & bequeath to my well beloved wife Elizabeth Ayer my negro man named Lott, and the improvement of all the stock (Excepting so much as will pay my funeral charges) and also the west end of my dwelling house during her natural life. Item I give to my well beloved son Peter Ayer five shillings besides what I have given him by deed. Item I give to my well beloved son William Ayer five shillings besides what I have given him by deed. Item I give to my well Beloved son Ebenezer Ayer five shillings besides what I have given him by deed. (Item) I give to my well beloved grandson Samuel Ayer five shillings besides what I have given him by deed. (Item) I give to my well beloved Daughter Hannah Mitchel ten pounds and the one third of the household stuff after my wife's decease. Item. I give to my well beloved daughter Elizabeth Bradley seven pounds twelve shillings & six pence and one third of the household stuff after my wife's decease. (Item) I give to my well beloved daughter Sarah Emerson seven pounds eleven shillings & three pence and one third of household stuff after my wife's decease. (Item) I give to my well beloved son Simon Ayer (whom I likewise constitute & appoint mt sole exedr. of this my last will & testament) all my land, which I have not already disposed of; and the buildings thereon, and also the stock that shall be left after my wife's decease and also all my [ ] of husbrandry and also all my bills, bonds, notes of hand & book debts which are due to me; and my funeral charges I order my executor to pay out of the stock; and of legaires above mentioned I order my executor to pay in One year after my decease. I also order my executor to pay all the debts that I do owe; and as for my apparel my will is that they be equally divided between my sons and I do hereby utterly disalloe Revoke & disamell all every other former Testaments, wills, legaires and bequests executors. By me in any ways before named willed & bequeathed rattifying & forefirming this other to be my last will and testament: In witness whereof I have hereunto fell my hand & seal this twentieth Day of December in the seventeenth year of our reign anno domini 1743."

    "Capt. Samuel Ayer, born in Haverhill Sept. 28, 1669. He was a yeoman, and lived in Haverhill. He was a man of considerable property, having a negro slave named Lot. He married Elizabeth Tuttle of Ipswich Nov. 21, 1693; and died Jan. 2, 1743-4. She died in Haverhill, his widow, Nov. 29, 1752." Lists children Hannah, who married Andrew Mitchel, Peter, Samuel, William, Ebenezer, Elizabeth, Simon, and Sarah, of these Peter, Samuel, William, Ebenezer, and Simon have their own entries.
