Will of Samuel Alexander

In ye Name of God Amen The 29th Day March 1727 --
I Samuel Alexander of Cecil County in Maryland being in health of body And of Sound and perfect Memory praise be Given to God for the Same, and knowing the Uncertainty of this life one [sic] Earth and being Defirous to Setle [sic] things in order do make this my last Will and Teftament in maner [sic] and form following -- that is first and principally I commend my Soul to God my Creator hopeing [sic] that I Shall receive full pardon & Remifsion of all my Sins and be Saved by the precious Death and Merits of my blefsed Saviour & redeemer the lord Jefus Christ and my Body to the Earth whence it was taken believeing [sic] and hopeing [sic] for a Gloryous [sic] refurection [sic] at ye last Day. and touching Such Worldly Efstate as it hath pleased the lord to bestow upon me my will is that it Shall be imployed [sic] and beftowed as followeth
Item. I Give and bequeath unto my well beloved Wife Mary Alexander my house and plantation whereon I now Dwell Caled [sic] Sligo -- Dureing [sic] her Naturall [sic] Life and after her Death I bequeath the Said Plantation to my Son in law Thomas Creig and my Daughter Mary his Wife to them & theires [sic] for ever they with what Afsistances & my Said Wife Can give them paying my prefent Debts.
Item. I Give unto my Sd Son in law the Crop of Wheat that is now upon the Ground toward the payment of my Debts and my Will is that my Said Son in law Shall have the use and occupation of all the Ground Cleared and to be Cleared and one of the Houfes that is now built upon the Sd Plantation from this Day forward Except So much as will maintain me and my Sd Wife Dureing [sic] our Naturall [sic] lives.
Item, I bequeath unto my loveing [sic] Wife all my perfonall [sic] Eftate and also make and Conftitute her my Sole Executrix of this my last will and Teftament as Witnefs my hand and Seall [sic] the Day and Year above Written

Cecil County fst June 14th 1733.
Then perfonally Appeared Martin Alexander One of the Subscribing Evidences to the within Written Will and Declared on the holy Evangelists of Almighty God that he Saw Samuel Alexander the therein named Teftator Sign & Seal the Said Will and heard him publish and Declare the Same as his Last Will & Teftament, and that at the time of doing

Doing the Same he was of Sound and disposing Mind Memory and Underfstanding to all Appearance & to the best of his knowledge and farther [sic] Declares that he and Francis Alexander the other Evidence did Subfscribe the Same in the Prefence and at the request of the Said Teftator -- Sworn before me

    Samuel Alexander, born 1657, and died April 10, 1733, in Cecil County, Maryland. He was buried beside his wife in the Bethel Cemetery, Chesapeake City, Cecil County, Maryland. Samuel married Mary Taylor, daughter of Elias and Comfort (Anderson) Taylor. They were the parents of seven children, in or near Pocomoke, Somerset County, Maryland and are as follows: A. James Alexander, known as "Farmer" was born 01 Jan 1685 in Annemessex. He died 17 Jun 1717 in New Munster, Cecil County, Maryland. B. Martin Alexander was born 18 Mar 1687 in Annemessex, Maryland, and died 16 Aug 1751 in Cecil County, Maryland. C. Sarah Alexander was born 28 Aug 1690 in Pocomoke, Maryland. She is buried in Frederick County, Maryland. D. Francis Alexander, known as "Weaver" was born 28 Mar 1693 in Annemessex, Maryland, and died 14 Aug 1760 in Carroll's Delight, Frederick County, Maryland. He was buried beside his wife in the Lower Marsh Creek Presbyterian Church Cemetery, at Highland, Adams County, Pennsylvania. (NOTE: This Francis Alexander is sometimes confused with his brother James Alexander's son, also named Francis Alexander. James' son married twice first to Jane Blair's sister then to Eleanore Simonton. Francis of Carroll's Delight was married but one time). E. Mary Alexander was born 1695 in Pocomoke, Maryland. F. Andrew Alexander was born 1697 in Pocomoke, Maryland, and died after 24 May 1782 in Mecklenburg County, North Carolina. G. Samuel Alexander was born in 1699 in Pocomoke, Maryland, and died before 9 Mar 1730 in Cecil County, Maryland.

    Samuel Alexander, shown as of Pokomoke, moved to Cecil County and bought lands in The southern part of The country in 1723, called "Sligo" and Alexandria tract. He also bought lands in 1723 for The Presbyterian Church of Bohemia, Cecil Coounty, MD. His will dated 3/29/1727 M.A.G., Voll, p.3. Recorded in Elkton, Cecil Co. Deeds, Vol 4, folio 74. Samuel Alexander to Martin Alexander tract, "Alexandria", 9/1/1723. Recorded 5/23/1724. Vol. 4, folio 75.
    Samuel Alexander to FRANCIS Alexander tract, "Sligo", 9/21/1723.
    Recorded 5/23/1724. Vol 5, folio 66, Martin Alexander (son of Samuel and, wife Mary) gives release to James Wallace, mentions "Sligo",, 9/2/1734. Vol 5, folio 97, JAMES Alexander son of MOSES and wife to William Sample Weaver of Chester Co., Penn., land purchased from Thomas Stephenson, 8/15/1718. Vol 5, folio 235, JAMES Alexander, Gent., of Milford Hundred 10/20/1736, Recorded 11/12/1736. Release to MOSES Alexander.
    He was buried in 1733 in Bethel (Chesapeake City) Cemetary.
