"1755 Saybrook Congregational Church - Ruth the wife of Josiah Dibble, Jr. and his sister Annah joined the church. There is considerable disagreement as to parentage of his wife Ruth. Some contend she was Ruth May, but as four grandchildren were named Benjamin Pierce, it is my belief that she was born 1835 [error for 1735] the dau. of Benjamin Pierce, housewright, of Charleston and Boston, Mass. and New Haven and Stratford, Conn. He was builder of the Congregational Church in Stratford and the last record of him there was in 1744. In 1748 Widow Pierce (believed to be his wife Mary) was living in the Lt. Miles home on the Green in New Haven, Conn. Benjamin owned land in New Haven before going to Stratford. There is another belief that Ruth was dau. of Thomas and Jennie Pierce of Westbrook, Conn. whose 7 children were baptized there 1751."
