    The eighth of twelve children born to Capt Joseph and Elizabeth (Dorsey) Burgess of Anne Arundel Co MD, Ruth married Elisha Warfield on 22 Aug 1778 in Anne Arundel Co MD.

    They had twelve children, five sons and seven daughters. Three of her sons were doctors, one served in the War of 1812 and one was an attorney. Five children were born in Anne Arundel Co MD. In 1791, the family moved to Lexington, Fayette Co KY, where seven more children were born.
