    Robertson Phillipson Cary, son of Thomas and Sarah Kemp Cary, was in the American Revolutionary War, serving three years on the Virginia Continental Line. He moved his family to Claiborne Co, TN around 1801. All of this family while in Tennessee spelled their last name CARY. One of Robert Philipson Cary's sons, Daniel Cary, changed his family's name to Carey after he moved to Missouri, sometime after the Civil War.
