Of N. Lopham b. 1787 C. 1808 aet. 21 prob. Rob. who marr. Amy. (Campling)

Rosie Flower, a Womack descendant who has done a great deal of work on the Womack family, writes that her conclusion that it was this Robert who married Sarah BETTS is based on the published pedigree, Womack of Lopham (even though Campling suggests that this Robert married someone called Amy). Some other published pedigrees have Sarah married to other Roberts, but Rosie writes that her conclusion is corroborated by age information on censuses and that the other Roberts are accounted for by other evidence.

1786 - Baptism: Robert, son of Thomas WOMACK and Margaret MERTON. Record gives date of birth.

1808 - Baptism: Robert, son of Thomas WOMACK and Margaret MERTON, aged 21 years. Baptised on the same occasion as his mother.

1817-21 - Robert's father's will left him a messuage or tenement with the old Hempland and yards in North Lopham, recently purcahsed from John BUCK, and also an inclosure of meadowland (2 1/2 acres) occupied by his father. For this, Robert had to pay 380 pounds. If he declined the bequest, the lands were to be sold. Robert was also required to repay 200 pounds previously advanced to him by his father. Robert shared the residuary of the estate with his siblings.

1825 - Robert was named as the sole executor of his mother's will. She bequeathed him all her wearing apparel and linen. He was directed to sell all her furniture, bedding etc. and to use that money to pay expenses including "putting down grave stones with a suitable inscription". The residue of this money was to be shared equally between Robert and his brother James.

1836 - White's Directory lists Robert WOMACK junior, farmer of North Lopham which is probably him. The older Robert is probably the one born in 1779.

1841 - Living in The Street, North Lopham with his wife, five children and a female servant.

1851 - Widowed and living in The Street, North Lopham with four unmarried children and a house servant. He is described as a farmer of 80 acres, employing 3 men and 1 boy.

1859 - Robert WOMACK, late of North Lopham Norfolk, Farmer, died 24-08-1859 at North Lopham. Will was proved at Norwich on 06-02-1860 by the oaths of Thomas WOMACK of Icklingham Suffolk farmer and George WOMACK of Westhorpe in the same County, farmer, the sons, the executors. Effects under £600.

The Memorial Inscription survey done by the Women's Institute records Robert's date of death as August 24th 1837. However, this is clearly not correct. It probably should have been 1859. Robert was buried on 26 August 1859. The burial record gives his age at death as 73 years, which matches with his birth date.
