Army pension records WO364, summary notes from various papers: 1915 - Attested for army service on 9 Dec and placed on the reserve. 1917 - Mobilised and enlisted for the duration of the war with the Royal Fusiliers (private 11443) at Cambridge Barracks Woolwich on 10 February, then transferred to the Army Pay Corps on 13 February. Address 43 Cotswold Gdns, East Ham, aged 38 years, married with one child, insurance clerk. Height 5ft 10ins or 5ft 8¾ins (different forms!), chest 34½ins, expansion 2½in, weight 125 lbs, wore glasses, had an upper denture and a history of dyspepsia. Next of kin Joyce Bertha WOMACK, wife, married July 26, 1913 at Parish Church East Ham. One child, William Thomas Arthur, b. 4/12/14 in Sth East Ham. 1918 - Promoted to Corporal on 13 February. 1920 - Discharged from the Royal Army Pay Corps, based in Blackheath, on 28 July. Aged 42, living at 43 Cotswold Gardens, Hatherley Gardens, East Ham. Period of service 1 yr 63 days on the reserve 9.12.15 to 9.12.17 and 3 yrs 170 days at home from 10.12.17 to 28.7.20. On discharge he appears to have been medically examined and found to have no disability. No evidence in any of the papers the he was suffering from any kind of medical condition. No claim was made for a pension. |
