His father's name was Robert[2]. It is possible that he was the Robert Were christened 17 Aug 1651 in Halberton, Devon, son of Robert and Mary Were.[3]

Robert and five members of the Spiceland Meeting House were imprisoned at the instigation of John Moggrigge, Vicar of Burlescombe.[1]
