He died without legitimate issue. His heiress was his cousin, Aubrey de Lisours. One copy of the Lacy history (compiled by the monks of Kirkstall) contains an interpolation which states incorrectly that Aubrey de Lisours was his maternal half-sister. This is chronologically impossible, but the mistake was repeated in many books before it was detected by Joseph Hunter. Some of his charters are witnessed by a Gilbert de Lacy, who may he been his illegitimate son. This may be the Gilbert de Lacy who founded the Lacy family of Cromwellbottom, in Halifax parish, Yorkshire. References
