Born in 1643, Robert arrived in Acadia around 1671 [after the census?], settled in Cobequid. Also on p. 1496 (Cobequid). Originally from Rouen, France, came from [Québec] Canada to Acadia around 1676, doubtless at the same time as the parents of his wife." He was at Trois-Rivieres, in Québec, in 1666. CENSUS: 1671, Port Royal, Acadia. [Does not appear on this.] !CENSUS: 1686, Port Royal, Acadia, age 43 years, with wife and 4 children, one not baptized yet. [Is the oldest child, age 7, the son of this wife, only age 20? They have 1 gun, 4 cattle and 10 sheep. No land listed.] !CENSUS: 1693, Mines, Acadia. Robert HENRY, age 50 years, with 12 sheep on 6 arpents of land. With him lives Mad'n GODIN, age 31, and six children: Martin, age 15; Marie, age 13; Francois, 11; Genevieve, 9; Jaques, 7; and Jeanne, age 5. !BIRTH-RESIDENCES-CENSUS-OCCUPATION: "Les relations de Robert Henry en Nouvelle-France de 1666 a 1676," in MÉMOIRES DE LA SOCIÉTÉ GÉNÉALOGIQUE CANADIENNE-FRANCAISE; vol. 46, no. 3 (autumn 1995); pp. 205-214. On 1666 census of New France ordered by Jean TALON: Robert, age 20, working as a domestic at home of Quentin MORAL, provost judge of the seigneurie of Madeleine (today Cap-de-la-Madeleine). (Domestics usually served 3 years, then were able to own land.) In 1666 Robert was also confirmed at Immaculate Conception Church of Trois-Rivieres, stating that he was born in the diocese of Rouen in Normandy, France, and could neither read nor write. He was witness on a notary act on 19 Dec 1669 at Boucherville. He was a party in two more in a land deal on 18 Apr 1670. He agreed to work for sieur BOUCHER for a year, on 1 Dec 1670. On 14 Jun 1671 he is registered as the buyer of 50 arpents of land from Pierre CHAPERON, total debt 400 livres to be paid over 6 consecutive years. More land deals and records through 1673. On 13 Jul 1674 Robert signed a contract as tenant farmer for two years, leaving Boucherville for Ile Perrot. He was godfather at Montreal in 10 Oct 1675. Other documents have to do with the fur trade. No trace in New France after 1676, but Robert is found on the 1686 census of Acadia with his wife Madeleine GODIN, daughter of Pierre dit CHATILLON & Jeanne ROUSSELIERE from Quebec, children all born in Montreal.
