1841 - With wife and 8 children at Roschall, Sutherland. Shepherd, aged 40, born in Sutherland, Scotland.

1851 - On the night of the 1851 census (30 March), Robert was a visitor at the home of his son, John, at Autlanacunach, Lairg, Sutherland. He is listed as a tenant of 4 acres, born at Loth, Sutherland.

1852 - Robert came to Australia with his wife and 11 surviving children per Europa. Also accompanying them were his eldest son's wife, Agnes nee TURNBULL and two grandchildren, Esther and John. Robert and his elder sons worked at Golf Hill estate at Shelford in Victoria for the Clyde Company, which was a large, long established and very successful pastoral company.

1885 - Robert and Elizabeth are buried together at Teesdale cemetery. Their headstone inscription reads, "Robert Grant died at Teesdale, 16 February 1885, aged 85 years. Elizabeth Grant nee Lees, died 23 April 1880, aged 77 years. They steered their course to the same quiet shore, not parted long and now to part no more."
